🌱 About Keren Foundation Uganda
Restoring Hope. Transforming Lives.
Keryn Foundation Uganda was born from a place of pain—but built on an unshakable dream: to bring hope, love, and opportunity to vulnerable children and families. Founded by Mukiibi Godfrey and Nanteza Oliver, the foundation is based in Bulaga, 9 Miles along Mityana Road, Wakiso District, and serves communities facing deep poverty, illness, and abandonment.
Our mission is rooted in real experience, personal struggle, and the belief that no child should suffer in silence, and no dream should be lost to disability, poverty, or rejection.
🌿 The Founder’s Story: From Pain to Purpose
A Childhood Changed Forever
My name is Mukiibi Godfrey. I was born a healthy child and enjoyed a happy life—until everything changed in Primary Three. I became seriously ill with Cellulitis (Etalo). My parents, doing what they could, took me to a traditional healer. But time passed, and my leg only worsened.
By the time I arrived at the hospital, the infection had spread badly. Doctors couldn’t identify the exact problem and, fearing the worst, decided to amputate my leg. On the way to the operating room, we met a surgeon who asked to review my X-rays. What he found changed everything: it wasn’t too late. It was pus around the bone—not irreversible damage. He chose to perform a delicate surgery instead of an amputation.
That man was an angel from God. He saved my leg.
I survived, but lived with a disability—and a new understanding of what it means to be vulnerable.
Struggles, Loneliness, and a Dream
My journey forward wasn’t easy. I had to fend for myself—paying for my school fees, food, and clothes—while managing a disability. I dropped out of school and began working as a photographer, something I deeply loved. I set up a small studio, but soon lost everything after being evicted. Alone, sick again, and with no one to talk to, I turned to Facebook for connection. But even there, I was met with rejection and suspicion.
Eventually, I made online connections—including one woman who claimed she wanted to build an orphanage in her name. I later realized it was a scam, but I kept talking to her—because, honestly, I was just lonely.
Then, one night, I had a dream that changed everything.
The Dream That Gave Me Purpose
In my dream, I was in a garden looking for blackberries. A barbed wire fence blocked my way, and because of my disability, I couldn’t get through. Two children came by, and I asked them to help—but they were too weak from hunger and collapsed. I ran to get them food, gave them bread, and suddenly, the garden was overflowing with berries.
When I woke up, I understood: if I could feed and empower children in need, they could reach places I never could.
From that day forward, I knew what my life was meant for.
🌟 The Birth of Keryn Foundation
Even after losing my only camera—the last tool I had to earn a living—I never gave up. I held on to the dream. And with the support of Nanteza Oliver and others who believed in the mission, Keren Foundation Uganda was born.
Today, we are not just a charity.
We are a movement of compassion—serving children, the disabled, the sick, and the forgotten. We provide education support, food, shelter, clothing, and emotional healing to those who need it most.
