Our Approach
Founder’s Story
Keryn Foundation Uganda was founded by Mukiibi Godfrey and Nanteza Oliver, born out of a powerful personal journey of pain, survival, and a deep calling to help others.
As a child, Mukiibi Godfrey lived a happy life, until one day in Primary Three, he was struck by a severe infection known as cellulitis (Etalo). His parents, like many in the village, first took him to a traditional healer, but the condition only worsened. By the time he was admitted to the hospital, the infection had spread badly.
At Nsambya Hospital, doctors considered amputating his leg. But just as he was being wheeled into the operating theater, a surgeon happened to review his X-rays. He discovered that the problem was pus around the bone, not a condition that required amputation. The surgeon immediately performed a life-saving operation. To Godfrey, this man was an angel from God. He was able to walk again—but with a disability that changed his life forever.
Due to financial challenges and his health, Godfrey was unable to continue his education. He started working as a photographer, a job he loved. However, life was far from easy—he was later evicted from his studio, fell sick again, and found himself alone with no support. Struggling with isolation, he joined Facebook seeking connection. Though the platform initially blocked his attempts to reach out to new people, he persevered and eventually started making connections.
One of these was a woman who claimed to be dying and asked him to build an orphanage in her name. Although he later realized it was a scam, their conversations gave him comfort in his loneliness. Then came a life-changing dream: Godfrey dreamt of children helping him pick berries from a tree he couldn’t reach due to barbed wire. When the children collapsed, a voice told him to feed them first. After doing so, the whole garden bloomed with berries. He woke up with clarity: he would dedicate his life to helping children in need.
Though life remained difficult—his camera was even stolen when he tried to return to work—Godfrey never gave up. His dream lived on.
Together with Nanteza Oliver, a compassionate and strong-hearted leader, they started Keryn Foundation Uganda—based in Bulaga Village, Wakiso District—to give hope to those who feel forgotten. They focus on helping children, youth, and the elderly through education, skills training, healthcare, housing, and clean water access.
Keryn Foundation is more than an organization. It is a promise. A symbol of love born from hardship. A mission to make sure no one has to walk their journey alone.
